Updated for 2025 - with a guest recommendation by our new articling student Ayana Kawe. The annual Nosh List has become a holiday tradition sharing all things delicious with my clients, friends, colleagues, and the world.
Sadly, there is never enough time for us to get together for proper meals. So between we “nosh”
Nosh is a yiddish word which means ‘to nibble’ – a snack between meals. Snack away until we can eat again.
Here are our annual top recommendations for the best ways to nosh. Keep in touch and let us your favourites for next year.

Keith Lee was not wrong! Sumaq serves one of the best shawarma wraps you'll ever have. Their veal shawarma, known as "Gus" by Iraqis, is tender, juicy, and well-marinated, offering a unique and flavorful experience. -

Believe it or not you can get STK's Signature Burger—a 7oz beef patty made from their steak trimmings and special sauce and homemade potato chips for just $9.99 on Uber Eats. Better yet upgrade to truffle fries for just $3. At those prices you will never order chain fast food again -

A Malaysian head chef crafted a Korean-Texas style BBQ menu... enough said. They have locations in Milton, Etobicoke, Scarborough, and Ajax. The Smoked Brisket and Jerk Chicken are incredible. The Fried Chicken Sandwich is also top-tier. -
If you love pizza, you have to try Prince Street Pizza, my favourite from NYC now in the T.Dot. They are famous for their Sicilian squares, especially the Spicy Spring, which has a crispy crust, fra diavolo sauce, fresh mozzarella, and spicy pepperoni cups that I call Fallen Soldiers.

Aloette Go is what happens Patrick Kriss the Michelin-starred chef behind Alo craves a burger. Amazing quality at McDonalds prices.

2022’s Top Recommedation is still great. Birria – my son’s favourite food. Get the gringa which adds cheese. Birria originated in Jalisco. Beef is slowly cooked in a flavorful consommé combining the beef with spices and aromatics like chiles, garlic, and oregano. A bowl of consommé is providing for dipping your birria taco and dip you must.

The best jewish deli in Toronto. Get the pastrami and order it ‘hand cut’ for an even juicer experience. Great matzoh ball soup as well.

On a cold winter day, I love a big bowl of Pho and the Golden Turtle in Ossington is the best. Go for #13 with the spicy broth. If you know, you know.
-
Our favourite thai food – probably the most stressful recommendation on the list as there is not a single standout dish to recommend. Order more than once - rotate between the Pad Gra rice dish, the Khao Soi curry and the not to be missed Pad Thai/See noodle dishes all are exceptional.

With the closing of Momofuku, Banh Mi Boys became the go-to place for a steamed bao. At just $5 dollars the chicken and pork belly baos are the perfect nosh.
-
The original Toronto chicken wing that led to the St. Louis chain (fun fact – St. Louis is named for Saint Louis Nemes – the owner of Bistro). A local celebrity, a recent highlight for me is that one restaurants reopened after the COVID-19 lockdowns, I ran to see Louis and landed on the CBC news.
-
Simple, casual, Japanese – perfect for a nosh. A reasonably priced quick and easy lunch pick is their two-for-one Spicy Crispy Salmon Rolls – while not the fanciest this is my go to Uber Eats order.
-
Some of the best shawarma and mankeesh anywhere. It’s the type of place where you want to try everything so get a spread. The CBC did a great profile.

The pea soup. Sometimes I pretend to be sick just to get that pea soup. Order the Greek salad with the spinach dressing to go with it.

The closest thing to my smash burger you can get. It is the go-to place om Canada for George Motz – the world’s leading burger expert. Motz is not wrong.
